Cycle 1 classes
Children from reception age to year 6 are placed in our eleven classes. We also have a particular focus on communication, access to the curriculum and mobility, and continue to work towards the children becoming as independent as possible. We aim to deliver a broad and balanced curriculum through a termly topic that is matched to the children's individual abilities. We follow the British National Curriculum, but tailor it to suit the needs of the young people. The subjects studied within this curriculum are:
- English or Arabic (dependent on the stream)
- Art and design
- Physical education (PE), including swimming (for most classes)
Physiotherapy, occupational and speech and language therapies are also integrated throughout the school day.
Each class has 6-10 pupils with one teacher, one teaching assistant and an additional child support worker if the needs of the young people require it.
Your child will be given a 'home/school' book in which anything important that has happened during the day will be written. Please use it to tell us anything you would like us to know about what your child has done at home. If you prefer, you may telephone school at any time to arrange to speak to a member of staff or a therapist.
We want your child to settle into school as quickly as possible and for this to be an enjoyable experience for you all. Before your child starts school we will hold a care plan meeting where you can tell us all about him/her. This will involve staff from health and from education.
